2008
Results
It is my
pleasure on behalf of the Riverland Wine Show Society to
present the results of the 2008 Riverland Wine Show. Judging
took place on the 29 & 30 of September 2008 with the
Exhibitors' Tasting, Public Tasting and Presentation Dinner
held on Saturday 11 October.
The 2008
event marked a number of changes for the Riverland Wine Show
including a new Chair of Judges; Mr. Glenn James, who brings
considerable judging experience.
Following
on from this, 2008 also marks the year the Riverland Wine
Show will farewell a number of familiar faces: Mike Farmilo,
who this years served as Executive Chair of Judges will
retire from the show after 17 years in the role of Chair of
Judges. Also departing will be long serving panel leader,
Andrew Wigan and panel member Colin Gaetjens. The Riverland
Wine Show Society would like to thank each of these for many
years of committed service to the show. They have truly been
integral to the growth, development and stature that the
Riverland Wine Show now enjoys.
As
promised, a more rigorous program of random audits has been
instituted. The Committee considers that this is crucial in
raising the standard and profile of the Riverland Wine Show,
and would like to thank Jenny Semmler for giving of her time
and expertise to drive this process.
Wine Show
entries in 2008 showed a marked improvement in quality
across all entries which was reflected in the high medal
strike rate. This is a testament to the resilience and
endurance of the industry which is able to flourish despite
less than ideal conditions.
2008 also
saw a shift to the Renmark Hotel as the venue for judging
and the prestigious Presentation Dinner. The Renmark Hotel
has thus far proved to be an ideal venue in terms of ease of
use for setting up and storing wines as well as providing an
excellent distraction free environment for the judges to
assess the wines.
Of
special note is the level of service and attention to detail
from the staff of the Renmark Hotel which was commented on
by judges and committee members alike.
An
analysis of the results will be presented at the 36th
Riverland Wine Show Presentation Dinner. The Wine Show
Committee would like to thank the Wine Show's sponsors and
all exhibitors for their continued support of the Riverland
Wine Show which has once again proved a valuable forum to
assist the continued growth and development of the wine
industry into the future.
